How to Hide Your Geo Location In Chrome

Google Chrome can estimate and detect our location when we browse on most websites. Sometimes you may be browsing a site and see a notification at the top-left corner of your screen requesting you to allow them to access your location.
If you click allow, Google will try to estimate your location on Google map accurately to the nearest longitude and latitude using your IP address. If you are connected to a WiFi or you have GPS enabled on your device, it can detect your accurate location coordinates.

I am sure most of us wouldn’t like someone somewhere to detect our location due to privacy. If you want to hide or disable your location on Chrome browser, there are a few easy ways to do it.

I will be showing you some of the ways in which you can hide or disable your geolocation in Chrome.

 

  1. Through Settings on your Chrome Browser.

You can disable your location through the settings on your chrome browser by following these few easy steps;

Step 1: Click on the Chrome Browser “Menu” at the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Click on “Settings”.

Step 3: Navigate downwards and click on “Advanced”.

Step 4: Click on “Content Settings”.

Step 5: Tick “Do not track location” or Block your location.

How to Hide Your Geo Location In Chrome

  1. There is an extension in Chrome browser known as Location Guard.

 

This extension helps in protecting your geo location by given out fake location to websites. When you add this extension to your browser you give it permission to access your location then it adds “random noise” to it and creates a fake location for websites.

You can also select any fake location and pinpoint it as your location. There are three privacy levels which are low, medium and high. The higher the level, the greater the amount of noise, which invariably enables better privacy.

Privacy levels can be selected based on the kind of website you are browsing. If websites that have the ability to detect your accurate location, you need to choose a high privacy level.

 

      Steps on how to add Location Guard extension on your Chrome Browser.

 

Step 1: Click on the Chrome Browser “Menu” at the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Navigate “More tools” and click on “Extension”.

Step 3: Click on “Get more extensions”.

Step 4: Type “Location Guard” on the search box.

Step 5: You will see it at the top of the list of other extensions. Click “Add to Chrome”.

Step 6: After adding it to chrome, you will see the icon at the top-right corner of your
screen then you can adjust your location settings to any location and privacy
levels you desire.
